Legal Fees and CostsThe Firm maintains a flexible legal fees and costs policy because mold cases can become very expensive. There are ways to keep costs down, and we can provide advice on how to do this. But even if you never hire a lawyer, mold litigation can be costly. Mold testing alone is expensive, and often we will advise that you obtain proper mold testing before you spend money on a lawyer. It is important to use a good and experienced mold tester. We can help you locate one and make suggestion on how to keep the testing costs down. Testing needs to be focused and at an appropriate level of specificity which will vary based on the nature of your claims. There is no fee for an initial phone consultation. Sometimes this can be all you need. At a minimum it may provide you with information that helps you determine what you need and hope to achieve with respect to remediating mold damage and obtaining compensation, where appropriate, from all responsible parties. Very often it may not be possible to provide you with a meaningful assessment of your case without reviewing applicable written documents. These are often mold evaluations that you have done previously, medical records, insurance policies, and condominium association documents or leases. If you continue to want to work with us, we then discuss what the case will cost, in terms of legal fees and case related costs. The legal fee is generally based on a complex assessment of your case, and is generally a mix of contingency, fixed fees, and fee-shifting statutory claims in which the defendant may be responsible for your legal fees.
